Night Flight

July 9th – August 1st, 2021

Curated by Yizhe Huang

The Royal @ RSOAA is pleased to present Night Flight, a group exhibition featuring artists Tong Wang, Feizi Wu and Xianglong Li.

July is the only time for many international students and workers to have an annual reunion with their families back home. It is always a long journey across the ocean. After boarding the plane, you close the blinds, let the darkness wrap you up, and peacefully fall into a deep sleep. Because you know, when you wake up, you will see your family that you have been missing dearly.

However, following the global pandemic outbreak, while Asian artists received more recognition in the mainstream, tremendous political tension among nations and racial tension within this US salad bowl are also rising. July is no longer special to many; and the perception toward the Chinese community in the United States has also changed because of the rivalry between the two mega nations.

Night Flight at RSOAA’s The Royal aims to connect through art, and provides an alternative for the audience to experience various narratives.

Raindrops falling into a lake is also a kind of returning home. So let’s go to bed with airplane mode turned on, as if sleeping is taking place above the dark, clear cloud.
